Growers in Belarus have started with the cultivation of Japanese shiitake mushrooms. The idea began 3 years ago with a state investment of 27 million rubles ($3,375,000 US).
The bulk of the mushrooms cultivated in the country are sold fresh and high demand is reported and now 54,000 tons are produced annually.
