To market, to market to buy a mushroom
As more and more people take an interest in sourcing locally produced fresh food, the "farmers market" concept continues to grow. This time the focus is on the Capital Region Farmers Market in Canberra, which was established in 2004 by the Rotary Club to raise funds for a range of community charities. And when you are talking about fresh wholesome food, you know that mushrooms will be there somewhere. Featured in the article is Ian Chu and his wife Helen who grow mushrooms at Murrumbateman. The family grow white button, flat, swish brown and Portobello mushrooms - selling about 100 boxes each Saturday at the markets. Little wonder really that some of the longest queues are for the mushrooms, which sell out early in the day. Chalk up another one for the healthy all-rounder.
